I see the virtues of the easier K3 install, but I am now quite happy with the K5 install on my R1250GSA. Well hidden and high up with a good view. I had to cut a little in the plastic fairing, but that is just a €50 part. I think there are several pros to the K5 that makes it worth it:- Better video, I'd assume even in 1080p (larger sensor, higher bandwidth)
- Faster Wifi
- Better compression (H.265)
- Better GPS (logs 5 times per second, vs 1 on the K3)
I have to loosen a bolt to get at the SD card, but I really don't see much need for it with the fast wifi. Time will show. But it annoys me that app is portrait mode only, I have to enter split screen to use it on the tablet.
I’m in the same camp. I like some specs of the k5, but the k2/3 is optimal in many ways for a clean install. Keeping the dvr tucked away and the cameras discrete is very nice. I personally love my k2 And may upgrade to the k3 at some point, but the 2 works so well right now I am hesitant to mess with it! :)
easy access to the sd card at the end of the day without a screw driver or dealing with wet road grime on the dvr from it being exposed is a big thing for me. Also IMO, 1080P, high bit rate, wdr/hdr, 60fps is preferred for some pro level video over 4K moderately compressed 30fps. I wish the k3 could do 60pfs, if it could it would be perfect!
In addition, with its round front camera, the K3 has the advantage that you do not have to place the camera mount horizontally or vertically. It's a matter of turning the camera around until your video image is horizontal. The 4K option is a nice option for those who make (professional) videos of their motorcycle tours.
Both K5 and K3 are great cameras systems, but I personally prefer the K3 over the K5 for serveral reasons. Firstly, I like the more discreet installation of the K3 cameras. The K5 DVR isn't that big, but nevertheless its size is limiting the possible installation locations on the bike. Another reason is, that I have plenty of space below the back-seat, which I can also remove within seconds. So that is an ideal place to mount the K3 DVR. Well protected, but still easy and fast access to the SD Card. And the last reason is, that I simply don't need 4k.

I partially agree with Frostie.
