Hi all.
I am going to buy a k3 for my motorcycle but I have a doubt. In the current connections, I do not need the parking mode and I want to connect to a 12v socket that the motorcycle itself has, how should I do it, what do I connect the yellow cable to?
Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much again gentlemen, now I have things clear to know what I can do.
Greetings.
Ok...Hans answered faster than me, but he wrote exactly what I wanted to write.
Connect the red and black to the battery and the yellow to the 12V socket. In case of a guarantee, no one will blame you just because you connected something to the battery.
My idea, if possible, is to connect everything to that 12v socket that I indicate
It is a compelling idea to use only the 12V socket, but it does not work. At least...it does not work correctly, because you would risk to corrupt the last videos and/or file system of your sd card. Imaging there is an accident and the video is lost just because you connected the K3 the wrong way.
If you connect the red and black wires to your battery using the 'fork connectors' that are on the cable of the K3 power module, you won't break into the existing wiring.
You can also connect these cables to the battery yourself using AMP connectors. See attached photo how I did this. So you will not have any problems with the warranty.
I understand that the 12V socket you indicated in the photo is a switched mode power supply. If you connect the yellow wire to this, everything should work as it should and you will have no 'damage' to the wiring.
Connecting the yellow wire to the black wire will not work.
Thank you very much for the response Frostie and sorry for my delay in replying.
The idea is not to touch the electrical installation since the motorcycle is still under warranty and in the event of any problem, the brands cling to a "brick" to hold the owner responsible.
My idea, if possible, is to connect everything to that 12v socket that I indicate, putting the black and yellow cables together as one and plug them there. That outlet maintains power for about a minute after the motorcycle's ignition is removed.
I have to say that I love these cameras and much to my regret if I cannot install them as I say, for now I will have to give up the purchase.
Thanks again for all the information you have given me.
Hi Jose,
I leave you a photo of the connector, can I connect the k3 there?
As Hans wrote, the K3 needs a permanent power source on the red wire and a switched power source on the yellow wire.
So if the 12V connector on your Ducati has permament 12V, you could connect the red and black wire there. But you would still need a switched power source for the yellow cable. The other way round...if the 12V connector is switched, you could connect the yellow wire there, but would still need permanent power for the red wire.
I do not want to go directly to the battery
If you have concerns about possible battery drain, you could use a time-delay relay to the power the K3. That´s how I power the K3 and all auxiliary tools like navigation.
Thanks again Hans.
Little by little I understand more how the K3 works.
My bike is a Ducati Multistrada V4s and I have two 12V connections that I don't use. One of these connections is under the passenger seat where there is a great space to place the DVR and converter box.
I leave you a photo of the connector, can I connect the k3 there?
Thank you.
The red cable must be connected to the constant voltage (+). The black cable to the constant negative (-) and the yellow to the switched voltage.
If you connect the red wire to a switched voltage, it is possible that if the K3 is turned off hard, the last recording will be corrupted. Or even the entire SD card. That is why the yellow wire is important. This ensures that the K3 sees when it should be switched off and ensures that the K3 is properly switched off.
If you do not want to connect the red wire to the battery, you will have to look elsewhere for a connection that has a constant power supply.
What would be the reason for you that you do not want to connect the red wire to the battery?
Thank you very much for your answer Hans but my question, since the switching is done by the motorcycle in the 12v connection is in this case if I can connect as an example since I do not want to go directly to the battery, the yellow cable with the terminal - (negative)
Parking mode can be turned off with the app.
The yellow wire needs the K3 to detect when the K3 should start or stop recording.
It is therefore recommended to connect the yellow wire to a switched-mode power supply.
