After emailing the manufacturer back and forth about the random corrupt files (they were helpful) and not much of luck to solve the problem. I emailed my dealer and the respond was great, they send me a new K2 and asked me to change the power unite first if it didn’t solve the problem then I would have to change the DVR and see what happens, again no luck there. I also realized that the corrupt files are the last file before I stoped and turn my bike off, conclusion that I got to is: when I turn the bike off the DVR is not saving the last file, what do you think it is? Is there a software or firmware issue?
I am riding a 2015 R1200GSA!
Cheers.
Hi Farzad,
conclusion that I got to is: when I turn the bike off the DVR is not saving the last file, what do you think it is? Is there a software or firmware issue?
Sounds more like a power or hardware problem. When you switch off ignition, what does your K2 do? Does it stay on for around 10 sec or does it immediately goes off?
If it immediately goes off, please check if there are still 12V where you connected the red cable.
Thanks for your respond, I just went and checked it up, turned the bike on, takes a few seconds for the K2 to come on and I know that is normal, and run the bike for a few minute, turned it off, the system stayed on for a full minutes then turned all off, I am using a fuse box (PDM 60) on my bike due to the can bus system, the fuse box also stays on for that period of time!
@Farzad Salehi
turned it off, the system stayed on for a full minutes
That's too long and indicates, that the K2 does not notice ignition is turned off and the PDM 60 cuts off power after a minute. Where did you connect the yellow wire?
@Frostie I am at work at the moment and don’t really remember where I have connected the yellow wire, will be looking at it tonight, any suggestions or photo where it should be connected?
Thank you for your help!
Did you check if the voltage drops off on the yellow cable when you switch off ignition?
@Frostie No, I didn't!
@Farzad Salehi
Then you should do this. I am quite sure that the voltage does not drop and that therefore the K2 does not shut down before the PDM60 cuts off the power.
To verify the issue, just do a simple test,
Temporary connect Red wire to the positive terminal of battery,
Black wire to the negative terminal of battery,
Yellow wire to connect the positive terminal of battery,
You can see the recording starts after few seconds.
After a while, remove the yellow wire from the positive terminal of battery only,
You can see the recording stop after few seconds.
Check the SD card, you will not find corrupt files.
After this testing, you can see, yellow wire to ignition need to shut off power in advance and camera can receive such message and shut off recording properly before the power supply cut off.
So after turn ignition off, Power supply from PDM60 should keep power supply for at least 10 seconds.
This is great! I noticed the same problem: last video before shutdown is corrupted. I have a PMD 60 on my 2016 R1200 GSA. I wired the yellow wire together with the power wire to the K2 to power from the PMD60. So, even though the PMD continues power for a few seconds after bike shutdown, the K2 senses ignition shutoff via the yellow wire exactly the same time as the power shuts down, corrupting the file.
Would be very helpful to know where Farzad ended up connecting that yellow wire!
DOH. I read the latest version of the installation instructions for the K2 and it describes the yellow wire/red wire combo with last file save corruption. I don't think that was there when I installed....
Keep in mind,
Yellow wire should be shut off earlier to send signal to camera to stop recording and save the last video clip before red wire shut off.
So yellow wire can not join red wire together.
Yellow to the ignition, Red to the postive terminal of battery.
oh, yes.. I've deleted the comments.
Thank you for your reminder. @Frostie
