Not so happy...using Dropbox sucks on Android. Using SD card firmware upgrade fails- when i insert the SD card, the unit goes black and stays dead. It works ok otherwise, but warns me to update firmware. I've retried with 2 new SD cards, formatting one via K2 and one via Android before copying .bin file onto it.
To see this working, head to your live site.
Search
1. Format SD Card in K2
2. Insert card to PC
3. Copy *.bin file to root directory
4. Insert SD Card to K2
5. Switch ON power K2
6. Wait for normal power ON K2 - ready to work.
Video files you have here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qnr7k5j3702qzgj/AABLsNu9esxyvMgprMtshosea?dl=0
It works for me.
Done, a few timestimes. I am 3000 miles from home and have no PVPVPC but that shouldn't matter.

Mine worked no problem exactly as Peter mentioned. The DVR even goes to the extent of deleting the .bin file in the root directory of the card after the update is completed. I checked because I was concerned the unit would get stuck in a constant reboot/update cycle after the firmware update.
Hi All - Just purchased a K2 unit. I completed the hook up with little or no problems. However I too am experiencing the same problems as Eric. I followed Peters directions but no results as I get the update warning each time access the settings menu. I also see two potential bin2 files on the website download section. I choose the (MP4) file....maybe that's the problem,.... maybe?
A bit off topic but a newbee question; is there documentation anywhere that explains what each setting does? I'm guessing that the DVR frequency settings should be 60HZ but I see there is a 50HZ setting. I also don't quite understand the LOOP setting options. Guess I could try T&E but maybe I can get some direction here?
Thanking all in advance for your help. -JEP-
>>I'm guessing that the DVR frequency settings should be 60HZ but I see there is a 50HZ setting.
This is typically for anti-flicker. See this map to choose the appropriate setting: http://stjarnhimlen.se/tv/LineFreqMap.gif
Long story short, some lights flicker due to the way power is distributed. This setting will attempt to detect and compensate for that.
It is *not* a framerate selection. The DVR only has two video options - 720p/60fps and 1080p/30fps.
You must copy "K2.bin" file from folder K2.20180925.V0.39(MP4). Only file.
Thanks. That's the file I downloaded and it didn't work so I just deleted it and re-downloaded....it updated! :)
Loop Setting options 1,3,5,10 is the size in minutes that the saved files will be.
If set to one minute then each file will be one minute of video in length and sixty files recorded in one hour.
If set to ten minutes then each file will be ten minutes of video in length and six files recorded in one hour.
Set at ten = 10 minutes of video lost if file gets corrupted. or 1 or 3 or 5 respectively.
Loop mode, when disk is full system loops back and over writes earliest file . locked files will not be over written...
50hz 60hz setting = Video Frame rate. Set for country you live in..
60hz..NTSC standard = 30fps (Actually 29.97) Used in US, Japan and a few other countries.
1080i Interlaced Scan (two half frames captured, then combined at 30fps.
1080p Progressive Scan...Entire frame captured at 30fps.
50hz... Pal Standard = 25fps. Used in the rest of the world not using NTSC (60hz).
Despite the fact that video is now mostly digital, the fundamental difference between video standards that existed under analog systems, frame rate, is still the foundation of Digital TV and HDTV standards.
Video images that are either broadcast live or recorded, are composed of scan lines or pixel rows that must match the equipment you are displaying them on.
Not sure what affect either of these settings would have on recorded video files from the K2, other than stated above, but it all comes down to ..NTSC 60hz is 30fps and Pal 50hz is 25fps...
>>50hz 60hz setting = Video Frame rate. Set for country you live in..
I believe this is actually for anti-flicker. Set to the mains power frequency of your country. The correlation with NTSC/PAL is coincidental, because those are based on cathode tube displays that operated at mains frequency.
@sniper1rfa Could very well be...Even digital equipment is affected by the frequency of the mains...some more than others...
Thanks everyone for the information. I have a few more questions but I will post elsewhere as I do not want to highjack the subject of this thread. -JEP-
Ok, so I was on the road away from home. I had only my Android cell phone. When you use Android to create the SD/bin file, Android also puts Android files on the SD which apparently confuses the camera. A friend created the SD/bin file on his home Apple and everything worked out fine. This is only an issue in probably my rare case, where a firmware update is mandated, the app auto-updated, and Android cell is the only computer. I have no idea what an Iphone would have done.
When using the Android phone to create the SD/bin file, what files were present in the root directory of the SD card, also, did you download the files to the phone with a browser or through the K2 app...
Hooked up and got cameras working. Iphone as well. Then tried to update firmware to to correct one. it did not update so I tried from scratch again. No dice. Now I can't get a WiFi connection to the unit at all. it just cycles through the lights. Since my phone won't recognize the unit I'm lost. Wgat next?
Any luck
Try resetting DVR with pin and reset button, uninstall and reload app. can you see Inovv K2 under wifi selection...
Thanks for the reply. Since I posted the problem I read another post indicating that if the cameras are not connected WiFi will not connect. I connected the cameras and got the iPhone connected. that issue is now solved. However the firmware is still not updating. K2.20180925.V0.39(MP4).zip
@nilsg As above, I discovered that my Android phone deposits files on the SD card, which apparently interfere. When I used an SD formatted and loaded/confirmed to have only the .bin file on it from a desktop computer, everything went easy first try.
@Eric LaCruze , Why do you need to create bin file?
I am thinking what I can help.
Obviously I'm not being clear. The K2 file downloaded for firmware, needs to be the *only* file on the SD card. From a PC or Apple desktop that's simple, but I was on a trip and had only my Android phone for a couple days. When using the Android, the phone system places system files on the SD card which apparently confuses the camera dvr. The system would not upgrade the firmware until I used an SD card from a computer which allowed no other file on the SD.
