I'm running V49 software, and a Samsung 128 GB Pro Endurance micro SD card. Every now and then (once an hour or so), I will get a pair of short .MP4 files, which are not playable. This has happened even with my motorcycle sitting in the garage on a cool day. What's going on here? It's not the SD card - this was happening on a Samsung 256 GB Evo card as well.
Do you have parking mode enabled?
File corruption does happen when the K2 does not shutdown properly. First you should check if the power connector is screwed on thightly. Some connectors a little bit deformed, which leads to a loose connection. If this is the case, you can warm up the connection to make it fit.
No, I don't have parking mode enabled. But I was not able to get one of the connectors screwed down tight, and I think it was the power connector. I'll try using heat, as you suggest, to get it firmly seated.
Well, I don't think the problem is with the power connector. I took a look at it, and even though the cap wasn't screwed all the way on, the connector itself was fully seated. I used a heat gun on the cap to get it to go on a bit further, and then used electrical tape to lock the two sides together with the connectors fully seated.
Ok...then it seems that the K2 resetted/crashed while recording. I know that the K2 is very sensitive regarding the cam connectors and tends to reset, if there is a problem. So maybe you should check the cam connectors are clean and connected correctly. Same to the GPS connector.
If that does not help, I am out of ideas.
Everything is tight and clean. Hmmm....
@Dave Funk
Can you try a 32gb SD card? If so larger size 256 SD card can be writing data from two cameras stably? A small size SD card helps to verify.
Two customers experienced the same issues, and got problem gone after SD card changed. Both were Sandisk SD card.
We had two ways to test each cameras before shipping.
First, 4 hours recordings with constant power supply and then check SD card to see the video clips if have issue.
Second, 4 hours recordings with inconstant power supply (each cycle for power on for 3 minutes, and power off 2 minutes) and then checking SD card to see video clips.
Did not find such issue during the above testings.
Thanks, Rock. I started out using a Samsung 256 GB EVO SD card, and saw the issue. I then switched to a Samsung 128 GB Pro Endurance SD card in an effort to solve the problem. The "Pro Endurance" cards are rated for dashcam (continuous) use. I still see the issue. I just went out to my motorcycle and took another look. It seems to be happening less frequently now - once a day or so (I have a one hour commute, each way). I get a single set of front/rear damaged (and short) files.
Just sent you email, let's see what wrong it is.
Yes - I received it (will respond offline).
I have the same problem!
Try removing both camera cables. Wait 1 minute. Plug them back in.
@Dave Funk Thanks Dave, will try!
@Dave Funk didn’t work!
As a process of elimination have you tried turning off park mode and crash detection?
N.
Thanks for your help.
The park mode is off and I could turn the crash detection off too, but why would the build something that you have to turn them off? Wondering if the next step is to turn the cam off! 😉
@Farzad Salehi
Check your reseller to get new developed converter, and you will no need to turn parking mode off.
@Rock Liu what is reseller?
I have a similar problem.
From starting all is fine, after around one hour there are corrupted files, sometimes later I get good files again.
I will try the following steps now :
- disable parking mode
- testing of different SD cards
- check temperature after one hour of ride
Further ideas?
Is there any possibility to repair the corrupted files? The size seems to be ok.
File corruption can occur if...
...the sd card is not fast enough to save the incoming data.
...the K2 crashes/reboots for some reason.
In both mentioned cases the video files are not closed properly. Means that the file header with all the information about the video (codec type, length, etc.) is missing, which makes the video unplayable.
I know that there are programs which can scan the file and fix the header, but I don't have any experience with that. Most of the time it is not worth the trouble.
As you wrote, I would test another sd card and check the temperatur. The K2 uses the bottom of the case as heatsink for the SoC. So it is important that this area has enough ventilation or other ways to get rid of the heat.
More than the above, Please be sure,
1. DVR is fixed firmly. DVR movement can be happen by acceleration, baking, vibration, that will make the power cable connection lost, or Pin connection between SD card and SD card slot lost suddenly.
2. Fixed power cable and video cables.
I tried all above and still have the prob still there, just ordered a new card to see how would it work, if a camera and dvr is made for motorcycle riding vibration should be no problem, right?
I believe my issue with intermittent corrupted files has been resolved. I was getting a few corrupted files per day (my commute is 100 miles per day, Monday-Thursday). Trying different SD cards had no effect. When the "version 3" power converter became available, I installed it, and since then, I have ridden for 10 days with no corrupted files. So I guess I either had a bad power converter, or there was a bad power connection between the converter and the main unit.
@Rock Liu Thanks for staying with me through this!!!
That is our responsibility! Have to do so.
Guys
just wanted to give an update as I was having the same problem. Thanks to Rock for supporting me with replacement parts but I was fortunate my system was still under warranty. I initially replace the dvr which made it somewhat better but I was still getting random bad files. During the course of troubleshooting I stumbled across the dvr was randomly powering up with the bike turned off. Rock sent me the revised power converter which seems to have corrected the problem all together. I’ve ridden roughly 300 miles since installing the new converter and haven’t had one bad file.
I have an issue where the sd card is becoming corrupted. It happened to my first card and so I purchased a brand new card as follows:Integral 128GB Micro SD Card 8K and 4K Video Read Speed 180MB/s and Write Speed 130MB/s MicroSDXC V30 U3 180-V30 i used it once after formatting via the app and it was fine. I removed it to look at video files on my pc and then replaced it for another ride. The second time I removed it, it says the sd card is corrupt and I can't re-format using FAT32 and available online apps as it says it has a bad sector.
I will try and send it back but why does this keep happening - am I doing something wrong? I wait for the unit to switch off before removing the sd card. Its an Innov K2 and i have updated to the latest firmware and app
I have had a similar problem myself.
After moving the K2 to another spot on my motorcycle and sandwiching in some foam, the problem was over.
It could be that the K2 can be a bit shock sensitive, but that's just my simple opinion.
Thanks Hans, the problem I have is that on an R1250GS space is very very limited and so it ended up under the rider seat.
Okay, I get it. So that will be a challenge ;-)
But not a bit of room for some foam around the K2?
It's worth the try.
Same problem for me. First day out yesterday after fitting my K2 on my R1200GS.
I put in an A1 256GBSD, took it out last night to have a look at the files and half of them are corrupt and it seems to have happened about half way through the day., the first half work fine.
I'll move the main unit if I can and try a different SD card.
This is very disappointing from such a supposedly HiTech bit of kit that's not cheap...
Make sure you are using an SD card that is rated for recording video.
Hi Dave, it’s a 4K HD card and is rated for video - cost me £50
I've just ordered this one from Amazon. I really hope that this is the problem and my K2 starts recording video.

Regarding corrupted files at higher temperatures, I would like to point you to the tests I did with my spare K2.
https://www.innovv.com/forum/main/comment/5f01f660206f5a002d87b9b0
Summarized: At least my spare K2 has problems accessing the sd card if the temperatur reaches 60°C.
There is a firmware which enables a logging feature. Using the log, it may be possible to check what's going wrong.
If you want to test this, you can find the firmware in my dropbox. It is the file called "K2-V71_with-Logging.bin"

Wow, thank you for this, this is awesome. If you could give me some tips as to how to get the logging firmware onto my K2, that would be awesome?
@Hampstead Motorcyclists
Install it like any other firmware.
Make sure your sd card is formatted in FAT32.
Rename the firmware file to "K2.bin" and put it in the root directory of the sd card
Insert the sd card and start the K2.
After some seconds, you will see the red led flicker rapidly. This shows the the K2 is currently flashing its firmware.
After flashing finished, the K2 will reboot automatically.
That's it.
