On my bike the GPS unit is under the seat, next to the battery and at an angle of about 45 degrees, and it works fine. The bike is a Suzuki GSX650F. I'm planning on doing an install/location thread when I get the time.
In the installation video on the 2008 goldwing, it shows the gps module mounted inside the trunk. I was hoping to use the same or similar location. If it works on the goldwing, wouldn't it also work on a 2009 Royal Star Venture?

it did not worked under my saddle, but in my case it works a bit covered by my back case... you have to do some tests
If works on Goldwing, for sure, it will work on Royal star venture.
Keep the logo surface top to the sky, GPS module will work.

GPS module can not be covered, the logo printed surface should be up to sky that helps to receive the signal.
