Right after updating to Firmware v.64, my SanDisk is showing "Disk Error" on the unit. I then tried to format it, which it said was successful. But same error after reformatting. Also, SanDisk is no longer detected on the Mac. This is the same SanDisk I've used successfully for 9 mos. Before replacing it, has the unit possibly corrupted it via v.64? If so, is this corruption reversible? Thanks for your insight.
Hugh
Hello Hugh, sorry to hear that. Could you kindly try another card reader to check whether it could read the card?
Yes, the card reader is fine. And this AM I installed a different SanDisk in the K2 and it worked fine as well. If there's a possible software fix for the $40 250GB SanDisk that's throwing up the Disk Error I would still appreciated that, before assuming it's dead and buying a new one. Thank you.
Hello,
First of all, a damaged SD card cannot be repaired with firmware, which can only fix problems in the DVR.
Now let's go through the questions again.
You have updated the firmware of V0.64, and this 256GB SD card has a "disk error".
After reformatting, the same thing happens, and your laptop MAC doesn't recognize the card either.
Yesterday we asked you to try to identify this card with another reader.
You said, "The card reader is fine", you mean the 256 card can be identified on your laptop now?
Sorry, my question was not will firmware fix a damaged SD. I was concerned that the formatting process in the K2 may have somehow gone awry and mis-formatted it, leaving it corrupt, causing the disk error.
Other SDs are successfully read on the Mac via the card reader - just not the 256GB in question. I am confident the card reader is not part of this equation.
The temp 64GB SD immediately worked fine in the K2. If there's no chance of an errant format corrupting the 256GB, then it must have just gone bad and must be replaced.
Thanks for the input.
Hugh
Does your Mac not detect the sd card at all or does it detect a corrupted media?
You can use the "diskutil list" command in the terminal to see whether it is detected as a disk or not. If yes, you can try to format it via terminal.
sudo diskutil eraseDisk FAT32 SDCARD MBRFormat /dev/diskx
where x is the number for the device the sd card got. You can see the number in the output of the diskutil list command.
Thanks for this! I'll give it a shot before punting.
Update on this situation. The corrupt 256GB SD is not showing up on mac diskutil, nor on windows or android.
Because the 64GB has worked fine all-around, I assumed the 256 had gone bad. I ordered a new one... and the exact same thing happened with it. After inserting to the K2 it shows "disk error" in the format area. The K2 says it has successfully formatted it, restarts, then displays "disk error" and will not record the cams. And once again, this new 256GB SD is inaccessible on mac/windows/android.
So I dropped the K2 firmware back to v61 and attempted it all again. Everything described above happened on v61 too.
The 64GB SD has worked perfectly in every respect on v61 & v64. My K2 unit (or the latest K2 app version) is no longer supporting a 256GB SD (which I've used successfully throughout the 10 mos. life of this unit).
Hoping you can find a fix for this. Thank you.
Hugh
So you put a new, working 256 sd card into the K2, formatted it and now the sd card is inaccessible? Wow...I've never heard of such an issue. I know that the K2 had problems with 256 GB cards, but this was in firmware V0.5x.
Ok...the K2 did something to the sd card, but it is very unlikely that it destroyed it physically, while it leaves a 64 GB card untouched. Seems more it put some illegal format on it. I am quite sure your 256 GB card can be restored, but you would need a tool which ignores the current state of the card and formats it in the correct format.
I had a similar problem once, when the K2 made my 128 GB card to be a 22 GB card. Windows (even with tools) insisted the card only had 22 GB. Back at home, I used Linux to format the card without any problems back to 128 GB. So this could be a possible way to restore the card.
But another point is, that this, lets call it "format of death", must not happen at all.
So I think it would be a good idea to ask Innovv if they know of this issue and if they want your sd card for analysis.
@innovv
Could you please read the previous postings and say something about whether this is a known issue or not?
@Frostie @Hugh Well noted. I've reported this question to our engineer, we will test again.
I will post here as soon as we have result.
Our engineers tested it using a Sandisk256 card (as shown in the figure below).
In V0.70 firmware down into the DVR format, it can be used normally.
@Hugh Please update the firmware to version 0.70 and then put the 256G card into the DVR to format again.
That is correct - thank you.
I will test this as soon as I can and let you know the results. Thanks for the info.
Please keep us posted. Thanks.
This ultimately worked for me. I updated to v70 from the 64GB SD. Then inserted the 256GB SD. The DVR then automatically formatted and restarted. Then, in the app, instead of saying "inserted" it still said "disk error". It wasn't until I turned the bike off, waited for the DVR to power down completely, then fired the bike back up that "disk error" changed to "inserted". Now it seems to be doing fine. Thanks again, and I'll let you know if anything changes.
Glad to hear that. May you have any other question, please feel free to contact us.
