Would it be possible to have the DVR clock use Zulu time/GMT?
I'm a 24-hour-time type of person. I would rather the system time and filename timestamps were in 24-hour format, vs. remembering whether DST applies or not.
This would also eliminate timestamps that are an hour off, because DST changed but I haven't connected the DVR to the K2 app lately.
Our timestamp has always been 24 hours, which is synchronized with your phone's time.
After connecting with the APP, click the real-time video recording, then click the pause button to wait for about half a minute, then click to start recording and stay on the current page for half a minute.
In this way, the DVR's time is synchronized with your phone's time.
I think you are misunderstanding my request.
Yes, the video files do get a timestamp in 24-hour format.
That's great, but it's not what I want. What I want is for the DVR time to be set to GMT/Zulu time, not local time.
I guess what is needed is an option to change the time zone and DST offset of the DVR. There is currently no such option in the K2 app, it just takes the phone's time.
This feature would be useful when riding across multiple time zones, especially when reviewing video after such a trip.
I believe you mentioned this.
When travelling around world, always facing the time difference and resetting.
From below thread just discussed with @cliffordmusante about time setting with iPhone. We always do best to keep the settings to be less as possible. We always have reasons to add more options, and the end it looks mess and headache.
Setting the time on the K2
We bought a new microwave oven in kitchen, only three buttons pressed even there are other 15.
That world-traveler's situation is a perfect example of why it would be useful to have a choice about how the time is set. For me, it's more that I'd rather have everything referenced to GMT. GMT/Zulu time never changes, regardless of where you are or which season it is.
Time zone settings are present in my other dashcam (Viofo A129 Duo), and it's quite simple, not a "mess" at all. Just one line in the camera's menu, where you can set the GMT offset.
It could be even simpler than that. Just a checkbox/switch. "Use Phone Time" vs. "Use GPS Time."
I think I've figured out a workaround though. I can manaully override the clock settings on my phone, and set it to GMT, rather than "network" time. Then, sync time with the K2 DVR through the app. That should accomplish what I want.
The easiest way to set the time of the K2 to any value you want, is to use the following command in your browser when connected to the K2 wifi...

..and then shutdown the K2 properly (e.g by pressing the button for 5 sec).
