Hello and good morning, I have an INOV K2 fitted to my 2019 R1250 GSA HP , it’s been on the bike about three months , but I’ve noticed the bikes battery going flat and I wasn’t sure what gnaw cause was until
a few days ago , I took it to my local bmw garage and they have diagnosed the problem to be my camera system, apparently it’s taking about 1.5 amps from the battery when the ignition is off ! has anyone else had any similar problems?
Either the bmw garage is telling nonsense or they did not measure the power consumption of the camera, but the total consumption on the battery.
The K2 takes around 0.4 amps while running. While booting, the power consumption may be slightly above this, but never more than 0.5 amps. Consequently, the fuse holder of the K2 has a 1 amp fuse installed. So in my eyes there is no way the garage can measure a power consumption of only the camera of 1.5 amps.
The first power module the K2 was delivered with had a flaw and took 0.04 amps while the camera was off, which is enough the drain a motorbike battery within a 10-12 days. With the latest power module, this has been reduced to 0.002 amps.
The canbus is very sensitive when is comes to tapping power somewhere. So what I can think of is, that the camera is connected to the bike in a way which prevents the canbus from completly shutting down. In this case, many systems of the bike would stay active and consuming power. Very likely this is what your bmw garage measured.
How did you connect the power module to your bike? Do you use something like cansmart?
