Why does it appear that I'm not able to set the date, I was looking a specific video clip and realised all my videos are dated 01 01 2018 so I was unable to find the relevant video, even worse was the videos didn't appear in any reasonable sequence. I could be wrong but through settings I'm unable to find any place to set date. I'm really regretting my purchase, had a K1 previous and had no end of problems with it and eventually gave up altogether and chucked in the bin, the rep assured me all problems had been sorted on the C5 but first time I rely on it its of no use..
You do not need to set the date, Just connect C5 app and go through the settings, the camera will automatically sync the time to your phone time.
Keep us updated after checking.
Ive tried several times, but every time it resets to 01 01 2018, from the comments below it appears I’m not the only one with the issue.. most annoying part is you really need to format before every ride to stand a hope of finding video recording should you need it as theyre stored in particular order..
I'm having the exact same problem. I can synch the camera to the app and the date will be on the video, but as soon as the motorcycle shuts off the date resets to 01/01/2018. The unit can't retain the date after the date has been set through the app and the power cycled through normal use. Rock Liu, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
The odd file sequence is because the camera is constantly overwriting the most recent videos first, so once you run the camera for longer than a certain time period they will start to save until you hit that time period again. This is because the camera always thinks it's 1/1/2018 so it can't keep track of which file is most recent.
I have the same trouble.
Synchronizing with the time of the phone from the C5 App, the time will be returned to 1/1/2018 unless you drive the bike for 1 or 2 days.
It is very sad. We have to consider changing to another camera.
So it seems this is an issue with multiple users. Rock, any ideas when this might get fixed?

Can you please share the S/N on the back of DVR?
The C5 has three versions,
1. the lithium battery inside,
2. capacitor inside
3. button battery inside,
All of those batteries used to save the settings and date/time.
Let's check if those batteries needs to be replaced.
And sorry for missing the discussion till now
@Rock Liu INNOC5171100574
I already have this one RMA'd though. I'm expecting a replacement tomorrow. This is the second one I've had this same problem with though. My original was replaced a few weeks ago and it was marked as the capacitor version.
Do all settings reset to default or just date/time...Sounds like complete loss of power, maybe internal battery problem dead/bad...
Seems to only be date and time, power supply and internal battery are good.
Just asking, how did you check the internal battery, does the DVR turn on when external power is disconnected. Can you connect to it at that point. Was the unit hot or cold..Not doubting what you say just a question.. I'm not sure how the C5 is put together...Is the date/time set when you connect before you ride and do all the new files reflect that up until you turn it off or is it at 1/1/2018 all the time.
Also, I am sure you do but have to ask, do you have the last update...C5.20180628.V0.36
Have also seen where a slight swelling or increase in thickness, of the battery will cause intermittent connection of the battery terminals. This can and most of the time is caused by internal heat and the C5 is known to run a little on the warm side....
yes it powered momentarily when disconnected which made me believe whatever internal power was present, didn't have any other more comprehensive test unfortunately, yes running latest update..
if I go through and reset all basic settings in the settings menu, and ride the date is correct. but once its powered off and restarted it always defaults back to the 01/01/2018
sorry can't say I've noticed any excessive heat from the unit either.
According to Rock Liu , and based on the S/N on the back of DVR, ( check with Innovv)
The C5 has three versions,
1. the lithium battery inside,
2. capacitor inside
3. button battery inside, it can save the date/time for 3 or 5 days without riding.
All of these batteries are used to save the settings and date/time.
I would think all the above batteries/ capacitor would save setup information for awhile longer than 3 to 5 days, I have seen old PC motherboards that have the original button batteries ( coin) and not plugged in for years, that still have enough power to save cmos data and even have the correct time/ date..
I would check/ replace the internal battery ( consider warranty policy),
As long as the unit is wired to the external battery i would think that it would hold all setup information including date/time...But then, a bad internal battery can wreck havoc on the normal operations of a system...
That's my thought too, about the battery life. I have dash cams in my cars that are capacitor based that hold the date for weeks, that's what has been leading me to believe it's an actual flaw with the unit or firmware. Perhaps not fully shutting down so there is a constant internal drain? I haven't verified with the replacement I received yesterday because it's been raining here non-stop, but I've had two other units with the exact same problem.
Are the two other units C5's also... and yes, depending on how they expect the unit to operate or what the battery is designed to support would definitely have an affect on battery life. The settings should be stored in some type non volatile memory / eeprom and the battery should support time/date and nothing else. Unit operational power should be from external power source..
Let me know how it turns out...
The other units were both C5s as well and I'll keep this thread updated.
Has there been any follow up on this issue. I have noticed this summer the date always reads 2018.... on the files.
Hello, could you kindly update to the latest firmware first?
Already updated, Just went out to check and there are some files dated 2020 and other 2018. The bike hadn't been ridden for a few weeks prior to Friday so it seems whatever holds the date memory is not staying charged or is running out of power. Is this power source replaceable but seems odd its having issues already, I have only had this unit 2 seasons! FYI - Bike's battery is fine and still having a full charge after 3 weeks so its not that.
Hello, thank you for your feedback here. In this case, please kindly reset the DVR via Settings/ Factory reset on INNOVV K2 App on your phone or pressing the 'Reset' button on DVR when DVR is powered on.
Same problem - defaults back to 2018 dates if not ridden daily - easy to lose a video from overwriting if you are doing multiple rides in a day
Sorry to hear that. Please kindly double click the "Recording" button to calibrate the time if there has some problem with the display of the time of INNOVV C5.
